Description
Petzl Huit Figure-Eight Descender – Classic Friction Descender for Work and Sport
The Petzl Huit is a classic figure-eight descender with squared-off geometry specifically designed to prevent rope twisting and knot formation — a common issue with rounder figure-eight shapes. Simple, reliable, and effective in both work and sports contexts, it remains a widely used tool in arboriculture and rope access.
Key Features
The Huit uses the friction of the rope passing around its form to control descent speed — the free rope end is tightened to brake and loosened to increase speed. The squared-off edges minimise rope rotation during descent, delivering cleaner, more controlled handling. We recommend pairing with a D-shaped carabiner such as the Petzl Am’D, whose closed corners reduce carabiner rotation under load.
Maximum use load: 100 kg. Compatible with ropes from 8 to 13 mm.
